Classroom Instruction Policy
Course Structure: Classroom instruction consists of ten (10) mandatory three-hour sessions, totaling the state-required 30 hours.
Attendance Policy:
-
Attendance at all sessions is required.
-
Students are responsible for scheduling a make-up session for any missed class.
-
The state-issued course completion card will only be provided upon fulfillment of all 30 hours of instruction, without exception. Please contact our office via email to arrange a make-up session.
Classroom Conduct:
-
The use of cell phones is prohibited during instructional time.
-
Instructors will contact a student's parent or guardian in the event of a significant classroom disruption.
-
Following an initial warning, the instructor reserves the right to dismiss a student from the session. In such cases, the session will be forfeited, and no refund will be issued.
Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) Training Policy
Prerequisites: Behind-the-Wheel training, consisting of three (3) two-hour sessions, may commence once the following conditions are met:
-
Successful completion of the 30-hour classroom instruction.
-
The student has obtained their Minnesota Instructional Permit from the DMV.
-
It is strongly recommended that students have accrued 2-6 months and 20 hours of supervised driving practice before the first session.
Scheduling & Logistics:
-
All drive appointments must be scheduled exclusively through email at info@wreck-lessdriving.com.
-
Sessions will begin and end at the student’s designated high school or at our office.
-
For safety, students are required to wear closed-toe shoes; flip-flops and sandals are not permitted.
-
Our office will notify you of any necessary changes due to inclement weather.
Scheduling Recommendations & Policies:
-
Do not delay scheduling. We strongly advise against waiting until just before your road test to begin scheduling BTW sessions.
-
To ensure availability, we recommend spreading your three drives over a 4-7 month period, culminating in a session close to your road test date.
-
We cannot guarantee the scheduling of all three required drives for clients who begin the process less than four months before their intended test date.
-
Consider drive appointments a priority. Sessions may be scheduled during school hours.
-
While we endeavor to accommodate student schedules, we cannot guarantee appointments that avoid all academic or extracurricular conflicts.
-
For appointments during school hours, a parent or guardian must confirm the appointment with our office and is responsible for coordinating with the school regarding the student's absence. Note that such absences may be considered unexcused by the school.
-
The final drive should be 3-5 weeks before your anticipated test date, and spread out the first two so all the drives are evenly spaced. We cannot guarantee to get 3 drives scheduled for you if you begin to schedule less than 4 months before your test.
-
Please do not schedule your road test until your third drive is confirmed on our schedule. This leaves time for a potential waitlist or for weather, illness, mechanical, and other unforeseen circumstances (for both the student and instructor). Also, a cushion of time to practice anything the instructor may suggest. It is much better to have time between the final drive and your road test than to wait until the last minute and have problems arise.
Weather Policy: Experience driving in various weather conditions is a valuable part of our training. The instructor will continuously assess conditions and make all final decisions based on student and public safety.
Vehicle Occupancy: Standard operating procedure dictates that only one student and one instructor are in the vehicle during instruction. Exceptions may be made only at the discretion of the instructor for evaluation purposes or upon formal request by a parent/guardian (not the student).
Please note: It is the client's responsibility to remember scheduled drive times. We do not provide reminder calls for Behind-the-Wheel appointments.
