Planning Ahead
Practice & Behind-the-Wheel Scheduling Guidelines
Supervised Practice (With a Parent/Guardian): We strongly recommend a period of 2-6 months of consistent, supervised practice after obtaining your permit and before your first Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) session with us. All practice hours must be documented on the official Minnesota Supervised Driving Log, which requires a parent or guardian's signature and must be presented at your road test.
Planning Your Behind-the-Wheel Schedule: Effective planning is essential. Please consider your anticipated road test date when scheduling your BTW sessions. We advise following this recommended timeline:
-
First BTW Session: Schedule this 4-7 months before your intended road test date.
-
Second BTW Session: Should be scheduled to fall midway between your first and last session.
-
Third & Final BTW Session: Plan this session for a few weeks prior to your scheduled road test.
Important Scheduling Notes:
-
Do not schedule your official road test until after you have secured your final BTW session appointment.
-
Please contact us via email to schedule drives well in advance, as appointment availability is typically 3-6 weeks out.
-
We cannot guarantee availability for all three required drives for students who begin the scheduling process with less than four months remaining before their desired test date. Early planning is critical to securing your appointments.

Scheduling Behind-the-Wheel Drives
All driving sessions must be scheduled by emailing our office at: info@wreck-lessdriving.com.
To process your request efficiently, please include the following information in your email:
-
Student's full name (as it appears on your permit)
-
Date of birth
-
Permit number
-
Permit issue date
-
A contact phone number (for calls and texts)
-
Your anticipated road test date
-
Your preferred driving location
Important Note: Please provide permit details from your official hard card permit, not the temporary paper copy. Ensure all information is accurate, as it will be used for official DMV documentation. Do not send a photograph or copy of your permit.
While we typically schedule drives one session at a time, providing your intended test date allows us to space your appointments appropriately to align with our recommended timeline.
Weather Policy: Please plan to attend your drive session regardless of weather conditions. Driving in various weather provides invaluable experience. Your instructor will directly contact you if conditions necessitate a rescheduling for safety reasons.
Drive Appointment Policy & Reminders
Scheduling Priority: Please treat your scheduled drive appointments with high priority. As these are essential for your development as a safe driver, sessions may be scheduled during school hours.
-
We strive to accommodate schedules but cannot guarantee availability around all academic, athletic, or extracurricular commitments.
-
For appointments during school hours, a parent or guardian must:
-
Confirm the appointment directly with our office.
-
Contact the school to arrange for the student's release, understanding that the school may classify this as an unexcused absence.
-
Remember: These three appointments are a critical investment in preparing for a lifelong skill.
No-Show & Late Cancellation Policy
A $75 fee will be assessed for failure to adhere to appointment policies. This fee must be paid in full before any subsequent drives can be scheduled.
This fee applies in the following situations:
-
Failure to Appear: Student is not at the designated pickup location at the scheduled time. A 10-minute grace period is provided.
-
Invalid Credentials: Student fails to present a valid instruction permit at the time of the lesson.
-
Improper Attire: Student wears footwear that is unsafe for driving (e.g., flip-flops, sandals).
-
Insufficient Notice: Failure to provide at least 24-hour notice for cancellation or rescheduling.
For Emergencies with Less Than 24-Hour Notice: Contact us via text message only at 763-567-2727. This line is for cancellation confirmations and will provide a record of your communication.
